The external hard drives are very good both in terms of price and storage capacity. The user have to save data manually which can take several minutes which is a drawback of these drives. The use of the external drives can be complicated with the multiple workstations in offices in case of different users permissions involved. These drives may stop working at any stage.

Tapes

The use of tapes for data storage is very old and it is still being used by companies for large data storage. These tapes may be damaged and prone to wear and tear. In this case yo have to take the services of the paid technicians. These tapes should be changed on daily basis cutting into value and leaving margins for human error.
These data storage devices for back up can have several defects. There is no verification abut the complete data storage. There may be cases of hard drive crash, CD’s damage, the dirve is not plugged in and tape was not connected.
There may be some serous concerns with security. Any person can read, copy or distribute or destroy information at any time as the data information is not encrypted. It will not be good thing for the valued clients as well as business reputation.

If these data storage back up devices are kept on location then there may be no use of these back ups. The data should be kept off site in case of theft or disaster for the best security. The CDs, disks and tapes can be used by so many companies to pick up the records but they may be problems with these backs ups to find the exact data locations. Many companies complaint about the location of the data record when call upon.
